Year 10 Chemistry Unit 5 - Energy changes

When we burn fuels they give out energy, this is a example of an exothermic reaction.  Students will have learnt about energy stores and transfers in year 7 and 8 as well as developing their practical skills using thermometers and temperature probes to measure changes in thermal energy.

In this unit student will investigate more exothermic reactions and also endothermic reactions.  They will learn how to describe these reactions in terms of the energy contained in the chemical bonds and how to display these energy changes using an energy profile diagram.

Students will use collision theory to explain the rate of a reaction and use bond energies to work out energy changes that take place in a chemical reaction.
