Bands and soloists 'bring the House down' in our music competition

Students from each of the Houses took to the stage at Spalding Academy this week for our first ever ‘House Music Competition’ to win a chance to perform at the House Celebration Evening in July.

The standard of performances on the evening was exceptional with a line-up of 12 acts consisting of one soloist performance and one band performance to represent each House.

As you would expect, there was a strict judging criteria, which was taken very seriously and done fairly as scores were awarded for confidence, technical skill and audience response. The judging panel consisted of Mr Alan Wood, Trust Director of Performing Arts and Mrs Jemma Curson, Head of School who had the unenviable task of picking the winners. There was a clear sign that the judges were enjoying the performances though as their feet were tapping throughout the evening.

Over 100 family and friends of the students filled the hall to lend their support and create a great atmosphere for the students to perform in. As audience response was part of the judging scores, they were clapping and singing along to support their Houses and their favourite performances.

Well done to all of the students and acts who performed. We are pleased to announce that the House winners are:

  • 1st – Holland House
  • 2nd – Trinity House
  • 3rd – Peake House

Mrs Jemma Curson, Competition Judge (and Head of School) said “What an amazing event. This was the first time we have hosted a House Music Competition and it was a great success. The performers were outstanding, from the perfect song choices, to the adaptation of the harmonies. It was a tough decision with only three points separating out the top three places! Well done to everyone.”
