Do you really know how to keep your child safe online?

The Stay Safe Partnership at Lincolnshire County Council are running a ‘Parent Online Safety Event’ exclusively for parents/carers of students at South Lincolnshire Academies Trust. No other schools will be involved in the event.

This free event will take place online on Wednesday 15th March 2023 from 6pm to 7pm. A booking link for parents/carers has been sent via ParentMail.

We are aware of the challenge’s parents/carers face as the online world is constantly changing and it may feel overwhelming trying to keep up. We therefore want to give parents/carers the information and tools to help them feel confident enough to protect their children and young people from cyber-bulling, online grooming, inappropriate content, sexting and be safe online.

We urge every parent/carer to attend this free event, no matter how much or little they already know as we need to work together to protect our young people from the dangers of social media.

When our Safeguarding team have to support families with issues about social media, they regularly say “I thought I could trust them” or “my child knows more than me”. This is the same feedback regardless if their child is 11 or 18 years of age.

This one-hour online workshop will be run by Dan Hawbrook from the Stay Safe Partnership and is the County’s resident Online Guru. He will chat you through different Apps, online trends, parental controls and any other burning questions you may have!

When you have registered for the event, you will receive a link to join the online Teams meeting one hour before the event begins.

Did you know?

• Over two thirds of students in Lincolnshire indicated that their parents/carers didn’t know everything about their online activity.
• 71% of children aged 12 to 15 who own a mobile are allowed to take it bed with them.
• Nationally, over 20% of those aged 15 or over have shared a nude or sexual photo of themselves.
• Only 26% of parents consider themselves knowledgeable about Snapchat, whilst over 70% of teenagers have the app.
