Bands and soloists battle it out in the House Music Competition

Students from each of the Houses took to the stage at Spalding Academy on Wednesday night for the return of our ‘House Music Competition’ where acts performed in front of a live audience of family and friends.
The standard of performances on the evening was exceptional with two band or soloist performances to represent each House. There were a variety music genres covered from pop to rock and dance to indie featuring songs by Adele, The Cranberries, McFly, The Goo Goo Dolls, Dolly Parton, The Killers and Kelly Clarkson.
As you would expect, there was a strict judging criteria, which was taken very seriously and done fairly as scores were awarded for confidence, technical skill and audience response. The judging panel consisted of Mr Martin (Head of School) along with Mr Hind (Deputy CEO), Miss Armstrong (Head of Music at Cowley Academy) and Jasmine Pahal-Jackson (former Spalding Academy student) who had the unenviable task of picking the winners.
With the hall packed with family and friends to lend their support to the students and there was a great atmosphere for the students to perform in. As audience response was part of the judging scores, they were clapping and singing along to support their Houses and their favourite performances.
The judges scores were incredibly close with just one point between first and second place. Congratulations to Johnson House who were the overall winners and Holland House who were runners-up. The prize for the winners is to perform at the Trust House Awards Ceremony, which will take place at Springfields Events & Conference Centre in September
A special mention goes to Miss Sanderson (Teacher of Music) and Miss Kilby (Teacher of Music) plus all of the Heads of House for organising and supporting the event.
