Offside Dreams gives young actors experience of performing on stage

Drama at Spalding Academy is one of the most popular subjects at the school as we encourage students from all years to get involved in the various productions, events and activities that take place throughout the academic year.

For students in Years 7 to 9, we run a KS3 Drama Club at Spalding Academy where our budding thespians have been working incredibly hard to create and perform a brand new and original play called ‘Offside Dreams’.

This has given our students the fantastic opportunity to either perform on the stage or get involved behind the scenes. It has also been a great platform for students develop their acting skills plus gain experience and confidence as students often progress to appear in our end of year musical.

The first ever performance of ‘Offside Dreams’ in front of a live audience of over 150 people took place this week with family, friends, students and staff supporting our cast and crew of over 20 students.

This original play that is a celebration of girl’s sport was set in a fictitious secondary school, that followed a girl’s football team which was thrown into turmoil after the sudden death of their beloved coach. What began as a routine match then spirals into heartbreak, rivalry and reckoning, both on and off the pitch.

Our students produced a confident and captivating performance as their hard work and commitment after school and during the school holidays was evident to for everyone to see. Thank you for Mr Horner for working with our students and a massive well done to all of the cast, students directors and technical crew involved.

A special mention also goes to Peterborough United Foundation for kindly supporting the production and providing the football shirts for our cast to wear.
