School skiing trip to Andorra was a great opportunity for adventure
During February half term, a group of 46 students from Years 8 to 11 had the incredible opportunity to enjoy a skiing trip at the Grandvalira resort in Andorra.
Andorra is one of the smallest countries in Europe and located on the Pyrenees mountains between France and Spain. Whilst the country may be small, Grandvalira is the largest ski resort in Andorra and a skier’s paradise with 139 pistes for all levels from complete beginners to regular and accomplished levels.
On the first full day of skiing, everyone was assessed on their ski ability so they could be placed into appropriate groups for lessons with professional ski instructors. For five days, there was five hours of skiing (2½ hours in the morning and 2½ hours in the afternoon) where our students could develop their skills, confidence and enjoyment on the slopes.
As well as learning to ski, our students had to get used to navigating the different types of lifts in the resort from button lifts, T-bars, chairlifts and gondolas. Each of these offered a different challenge, but through patience, teamwork and support they learnt how to safely make their way around.
After a long tiring day skiing, students could relax and unwind in the modern and comfortable hotel fully equipped with a fitness centre and games room. We also provided students with evening entertainment, which included a pizza evening, bingo night and shopping evening.
The trip provided a great opportunity for adventure, physical activity, independence and cultural experiences, making it a rewarding and confidence building week away that created memories that will last a lifetime.
