Best ever season achieved by our Year 8 Netball Team
Best ever season achieved by our Year 8 Netball Team
It has been an amazing season for our Year 8 Netball Team after being crowned winners of the Year 8 South Lincs Schools A Netball League.
This group of talented and dedicated players are the first ever Spalding Academy netball team to win the league and they went the whole season unbeaten in the league scoring 46 goals and only conceding 12.
League results:
- Spalding Academy 5–1 Bourne Grammar School
- Spalding Academy 19–9 The Deepings School
- Spalding Academy 17–2 Bourne Academy
- Spalding Academy 5-0 University Academy Holbeach
As league winners, this meant that they had also reached the District Final for the first time ever and would play Boston High School who were the winners of the South Lincs Schools B Netball League.
In preparation for the final, the Spalding Academy team took part in an inter-school competition on Wednesday 20th April 2022. Once again, they played extremely well and achieved third place in the tournament after winning six out of their eight games.
Tournament results:
- Spalding Academy 3 – 2 Spalding High School
- Spalding Academy 1 – 5 University Academy Holbeach
- Spalding Academy 1 – 0 Giles Academy
- Spalding Academy 5 – 0 Haven High Academy
- Spalding Academy 2 – 1 Bourne Academy
- Spalding Academy 1 – 4 Boston High School
- Spalding Academy 2 – 0 The Thomas Cowley High School
- Spalding Academy 4 – 3 Bourne Grammar School
Going into the final, the team were feeling a little nervous as they knew Boston High School would be tough competition after already playing them in the tournament.
Both teams started a little shaky until they found their own pace and it was Spalding Academy who started ahead as they went in to the 2nd quarter with a 2-1 lead. Another quarter of excellent play from both teams meant we were drawing 4-4 going in to the third quarter. However, the victory wasn’t meant to be for Spalding Academy this year as they lost the game in the final two quarters.
After the final whistle, Emma Ringrose, PE Teacher at Spalding Academy said “The team were a little disappointed with the outcome so I had to remind them that they are the first netball team from Spalding Academy to ever win their league and then play in the final. Throughout the year they have shown great enthusiasm and determination and I cannot wait to see what they can achieve moving forwards in to Year 9.”
All players should feel incredibly proud about how their have represented the school throughout the whole season and the achievement they have made.
