Careers Fair inspires students to prepare for their future

Spalding Academy welcomed over 1,000 students and over 30 exhibitors to the annual Careers Fair at a daytime event on Thursday 14 October 2021 as well as inviting parents to an after-school session to give everyone an opportunity to prepare for their future.

As a school with students from years 7 to 11, we always support students whether they want to progress to higher education, apprenticeships or employment.

The fair welcomed universities, colleges as well as our very own sixth form, plus apprenticeship providers, local and national employers including our main sponsor Bakkavor and the NHS, RAF, British Army and Lincolnshire Police.

All of the exhibitors at the fair were impressed how genuinely interested and professional our students were to improve their career prospects.

It’s great to be able to engage with local children who are interested in joining our Lincolnshire Police family. Today was also a great opportunity to break down those barriers and dispel any myths around careers in policing.

Lincolnshire Police

It’s been an engaging day that has enabled our company to highlight the diverse opportunities available at our company which includes retail, logistics, engineering, butchery and manufacturing.

Morrisons

They were amazing students full of confidence who asked questions to seek further information about careers in teaching. It’s fabulous to sow the seeds for the next generation of inspiring teachers for Lincolnshire.

St George's Academy Partnership

By offering an after-school session, we had so many students eager to return with their parents to meet companies who have been able to help them identify new career opportunities. These are valuable interactions that will help students be understand how they can work towards their dream job.

Mrs Lucy Conley, Executive Headteacher said “This is such an important event in our school calendar which is available for all of our students and parents. As a school who supports every student to help them explore their options available at both post-16 and post-18, we have an outstanding careers team based in our school. We have an annual schedule of activities and events for years 7 to 11, which far exceeds the framework that schools have to follow.”

Mrs Libby Barber, Careers & Aspirations Lead said “We would like to thank Bakkavor for generously sponsoring the event and all of the exhibitors who attended and gave up their valuable time to speak to our students and make the event so engaging and interesting. Meeting employers and representatives from industry is so important to help our students explore their options and find out the amazing opportunities available after successfully completing their studies at Spalding Academy.”
