Girls Futsal Team compete in first inter-school tournament

Last week, our Year 7 and 8 students travelled to Haven High School in Boston to take part in their first ever Superzone Futsal Tournament, which featured nine schools from across South Lincolnshire.

Futsal is similar to 5-a-side indoor football but uses a smaller and heavier ball making it a fast paced and skilful game. Playing Futsal can also develop close control ball techniques which can improve performance when playing traditional football.

Miss Pearce, Teacher of PE at Spalding Academy said “The girls displayed fantastic enthusiasm and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Olivia Pike was our player of the tournament as she was dominant in defence and communicated confidently to her players. Goals came from Kesten Marsh and Izzy Billner. It was fantastic work by all the girls involved as they represented the school brilliantly and worked as team until the final whistle.”

The School Games aims to promote participation, competition and leadership but also instils the values of teamwork, determination, passion, honesty, self belief and respect.
