Gold medal winner swimmer is making waves in the pool

When Emilijus Binkis in Year 8 is not studying in the classroom, he can probably be found in the swimming pool either training or competing.

His hard work and commitment in the pool is certainly paying off as he recently won 7 medals (3 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze) at a Regional Qualifier Meet with winning gold in the 50m and 100m Breaststroke races.

The progress that Emilijus is making means that he is on target and just 2-3 seconds away from achieving the County and Regional times so he can represent Lincolnshire in the 50m Breaststroke.

This success has not happened overnight though as Emilijus has been part of the South Lincs Competitive Swimming Club (www.slcsc.co.uk) since he was aged 7 and follows a strict training schedule which involves three sessions in the evenings and three sessions at the weekend.

As well as training, Emilijus is learning that what he eats and drinks can improve his performance especially when swim meets can involve many races on the same day, so he makes sure he eats carbs before swimming and protein after.

Emilijus truly embodies our school ethos of Aspire, Challenge, Achieve and we are all supporting him so he can reach his target times to represent the county.
