Under 14 Gymnastics Team achieve more medals at Regional competition

At the weekend, eleven students from Spalding Academy travelled to Stamford to take part in the East Midlands Regional Floor & Vault Competition.

It was an early start and a long day for our students as one of our teams were competing in the first round of the day so we set off from Spalding Academy at 7am.

The Under 14 A Team (Elle Alsop-Buxton, Whitney Law, Connie Urquhart, Emilia Wilson and Gabrielle Wilson) went into the competition as County Champions after winning the Lincolnshire competition in December.

As champions, they knew exactly what they needed to do and performed all five of their floor routines with style and confidence, then on the vault they all performed their handsprings with great flight and landings.

These stunning routines earnt them 3rd place in the competition and only narrowly missing out on 2nd! This is a great achievement for this talented team as it is only their second competition together and means they are 3rd in the whole of the East Midlands region!

The Under 14 B Team (Megan Farrar, Oliwia Kuchta, Aleksa Parfjonova, Jess Roberts and Olivia Wells) had been working incredibly hard in training prior to the competition especially on the vault.

This hard work paid off as they all managed to get over the vault and received some great scores. There were joys of emotion, high fives and hugs from students and supporting family members as the girls made big strides in their confidence at the competition. They all put in beautiful performances on the floor and demonstrated how much they had improved since December.

Lily Kelks in Year 11 competed on her own as she still wanted to participate in one more competition before she leaves Spalding Academy in the summer. This determination and passion for gymnastics was on show as Lily went all out and absolutely smashed her floor routine and vault!
