House competition to write, create and perform an original play

Budding thespians from each of the school Houses took part in the first ever House Performing Arts competition last week as they graced the main stage at Spalding Academy in front of a live audience.
The task for each House was to write, create and perform and original play with the added challenge of incorporating a balloon into their performance.
For extra pressure, the students were being assessed by our expert panel of judges, which included Mr Martin (Head of School), Mrs Smith (Trust Associate Quality Director) and Mr Lacey (Performing Art Trainee Teacher). They were awarding scores based on a strict judging criteria that considered performance skills and use of the stage, storyline of the play and the creative use of the balloon.

All of the performances really impressed the judges and the overall winners with a fantastic score of 82 out of 90 was Blue House. In second place was Green House and in third place was Orange House.
The performance by Blue House was about a girl called Nova, which showed how negativity can influence behaviour and the clever use of the balloon was used to represent herself and how the simple things can weigh you down or lift you up. This play was directed by Jessica Hope, Savannah Hughes and Emily Young in Year 11 and performed by Freddi Bird, Carla Cartoafa, Sarah Newell, Bella Bafico and Ruby Carvalho in Years 7 & 8. The Blue House even provided the audience with an excellent programme during the interval before their performance.
Well done to all of the students who were directing or performing on stage as they put on a fantastic event that was enjoyed with everyone who attended. A special thank you to Mr Horner for organising the event and supporting the students and of course our panel of judges.
