LIoT Schools STEM Challenge tests engineering, design and teamwork
Teams of Year 9 students from Spalding Academy, Bourne Academy and Cowley Academy represented our Trust at the annual Lincolnshire Institute of Technology (LIoT) Schools STEM Challenge, which was held at Lincolnshire Showground.
The challenge this year was to design and build a device (using recyclable, recycled, or repurposed materials) that could pick up and position blocks, to build a pyramid in a new location. Students were also asked to create a VLOG to record their journey through this project.
Our STEM students have been working hard on this project for several months, coming up with different designs and then testing them until they found a device that worked well. During the challenge day, students were timed as they used their devices to pick up the blocks and form the pyramid.
Well done to the students from Bourne Academy, who completed the task in under 1 minute, winning the overall prize!
All of our students have shown impressive engineering skills throughout this project, with a range of final designs. They have been resilient and worked together to solve any problems that came up with their designs, right up to the moment they completed the final test!
Congratulations to all students for completing the challenge successfully and demonstrating creativity and collaboration. It has been a great opportunity to test their skills in engineering, design and teamwork.
