MP officially opens new eight classroom block

With Spalding Academy increasing the number of students it accepts in Year 7 from 270 to 300, this means that the school will have an extra 150 students over the next five years, and therefore the school required additional classrooms to accommodate this demand.

Spalding Academy were extremely grateful that Lincolnshire County Council has recognised this by investing in excess of £3 million to build a brand new eight classroom block at the school.

The building was officially opened by the Rt Hon Sir John Hayes MP and Cllr Elizabeth Sneath on Wednesday 27th September 2023, who were joined by Mr Matthew Stapleton (Senior Project Manager at Lincolnshire County Council), Mrs Lucy Conley (SLAT Chief Executive Officer), Mrs Jemma Curson (Head of School) and Year 11 Head Students from Spalding Academy.

The guests were able to meet students and staff in the new classrooms and learn how well received this new facility is directly from the school community.

This modern purpose-built classroom block (known as L Block) features eight spacious classrooms over two floors which are fully equipped with large display screens and additional storage for teachers. There are toilet blocks on both floors and the building is fully accessible with a lift and two points of access to classrooms on the ground floor.
The subject departments who are benefiting from the new building are Business and Geography, and this has allowed other departments in the school to increase the teaching areas for their subjects.

The building was designed to be environment friendly with large amounts of insulation and energy saving equipment such as ventilation systems and LED lighting to reflect the current best design in secondary education. With Spalding Academy being winners of the ‘Environmental Champions’ category in the 2023 Lincolnshire Free Press and Spalding Guardian Education Awards, these are credentials the school are proud of.

Rt Hon Sir John Hayes CBE MP said “Spalding Academy, a school I know so well and have backed throughout, has gone from strength to strength. This substantial investment will, by improving facilities available for pupils, secure the progress that has been made so far and promote even more.”

Mrs Lucy Conley, Chief Executive Officer at South Lincolnshire Academies Trust said “The popularity of Spalding Academy and our student numbers keep growing and it is therefore important we continue to provide outstanding teaching facilities for our students so they receive the best possible education we can provide. These new classrooms are just some of the improvements we have made to the school in the last two years and there are further new exciting building projects to be announced soon.”
