Record breaking season for Year 10 boys football team

A massive congratulations to the Year 10 Football Team who have won the first district football league title in the history of Spalding Academy.

After reaching the semi-final of the County Cup last year (by losing to Spalding Grammar School), they put this behind them, by beating Spalding Grammar School 2-1 in the league. They have also had convincing 6-1 wins against Bourne Grammar School and Bourne Academy, and gone undefeated for the whole of the season to lift the district title.

In this record-breaking season, they reached the third round of the National Schools Cup, which was the furthest that Spalding Academy had previously achieved.

When competing against other schools in the Trust, the team has also won their SLAT football tournament for the last two years and remain undefeated for both years.

They are now one game away from the South Lincolnshire Superzone title, which is something this team have a really good chance of winning considering their recent form. They will now play Boston Grammar School, who were the league winners of the Boston area to compete for this title.

Mr Favell, Teacher of PE said “The boys are a fantastic footballing side who have gone from strength to strength over the past four years. They have been a pleasure to coach and manage as there is so much strength in depth that when we have changed the team, they have continued to put in quality performances. They have made myself and all of the PE department incredibly proud to win the district league title this year.”
