Science Club learn how to grow crystalized Christmas decorations
Good things come to those who wait and for the Science Club this month, the latest experiment required plenty of patience. Using coloured pipe cleaners, boiling water and an Alum (Aluminum Sulfate) solution, students were able to design and grow their very own crystalized Christmas decorations.
Firstly, students made festive shapes (such as candy canes, wreaths and even a reindeer) out of the coloured pipe cleaners and then suspended them in a jar with the alum solution until crystals formed. After a long wait and the drying process, the decorations are then perfect to proudly display on the Christmas tree.
The Science Club takes place after school on Thursdays and is for Year 7 and 8 students to develop their interest in Science in a fun and engaging way.
