Science Fair feature stands and experiments run by student scientists

To develop a passion for Science, we run an after-school Science Club for Year 7 and Year 8 where they have been creating and practicing experiments using items you could find in the home.

To showcase what the students have learnt, they held a lunchtime ‘Science Fair’ at the end of term, which was open for students from all years to attend. The special event was organised by Miss Davis, Teacher of Science who tasked the students to create their own science stands featuring different experiments that were accompanied by posters designed by students.

Mrs Curson, who opened the fair with Miss Davis was eager to get involved and safely demonstrated the impressive methane bubbles experiment. Other stands run by students included how to create lava lamps using household ingredients, fruit batteries made out of lemons, designing mini catapults, floating tea bag ghosts and how to make fireworks glow different colours.

At the Science Fair, Alice Hall in Year 7 was presented with a prize for her winning entry in a school poster competition as part of British Science Week 2023. Using the theme of ‘Connections’, Alice made her poster about bones and joints in the human body. The poster will be submitted to the national competition along with the other winning entry from Teddy Sharman in Year 7 who designed a poster which looked at the link between bacteria and plants.

If students in Year 7 and 8 would like to get involved in the Science Club, this takes place every Thursday after school in room G17.
