Taking the leap from Basketball Club to 3x3 Basketball Tournament
A group of our Year 7 students took the trip to University Academy Holbeach to compete in the South Lincolnshire 3×3 Basketball Tournament where they played matches against five other local schools.
The 3×3 tournament is played three-a-side with two hoops and gives Year 7 students experience of playing basketball fixtures before making the transition to 5×5 basketball games in Year 8.
Our students have been able to develop their dribbling, shooting and passing skills, learn the rules and build on their team play during the Year 7 Basketball Club with Mr Duggan on Tuesday lunchtimes. The competition was a reward for the students who have demonstrated their commitment to these sessions.
We had seven students participate in the competition and they were split into two teams to play in two different groups. It was a great experience for the students as they all won, drew and lost games and one of our teams made it through to the semi-finals after being unbeaten in the group stages. They just missed out reaching the final after drawing 4-4 in the game and only lost on a penalty free throw contest.
Mr Duggan, Head of PE at Spalding Academy said “The students played and behaved really well, also demonstrating some really good teamwork and sportsmanship. Well done to all the players and I look forward to seeing them at training on Tuesday lunchtimes.”
