Under 14 Girls Gymnastics Team are County Champions

Congratulations to the Under 14 Girls team (pictured in blue), who achieved first place at the Lincolnshire Schools Floor and Vault Competition to be crowned County Champions!

On Sunday 11th December 2022, thirteen students from Spalding Academy travelled to Grantham to compete against other schools from across Lincolnshire. They competed in three different level categories in a tightly matched competition.

The winning team consisted of Whitney Law and Connie Urquhart in Year 7 and Elle Alsop-Buxton, Emilia Wilson and Gabrielle Wilson in Year 8. Emilia Wilson had an outstanding competition as she also came first in the Level 3 category. As well as winning the competition, the Under 14 Girls Blue were the highest scoring team of the day as they scored higher than the Under 19 Girls team who came in first place.

Miss Ringrose, Teacher of PE at Spalding Academy said “The team performed with such confidence and really went all out to win. This is such an incredible achievement for a group of Year 7 and 8 girls. All of our teams were incredibly well behaved whilst watching the other teams perform and all showed a great level of sportsmanship.”

The Under 14 Girls team (in pink) had a brilliant competition as well and were placed just outside of the medals by achieving fourth place. For this team of Year 7 students it was their first ever gymnastics competition, which they thoroughly enjoyed. This team consisted of Megan Farrar, Oliwia Kuchta, Aleska Parfjonova, Jess Roberts and Olivia Wells.

Unfortunately, due to illness the Under 19 mixed team were a member down and couldn’t compete as a team – however, they were allowed to compete individually. All of the girls were congratulated on their beautiful floor routines by both of the floor judges and coaches from other schools. Olivia Mohale in Year 10 came first place and Wiktoria Chmielewska in Year 11 came second place for Level 1. In the Level 2 category Lily Kelk in Year 11 came in second place and only 0.1 points from winning!

The teams are continuing their training in preparation for the East Midlands Floor and Vault Competition, which will be held Saturday 4th February 2023 in Stamford.
