Court 1 at Wimbledon serves up a memorable day for tennis enthusiasts

Having secured tickets for the first time ever via the Wimbledon schools ballot, a lucky group of our young tennis enthusiasts were able to experience to thrill of world-class tennis when we attended Day 7 of the prestigious Wimbledon Championships.
Not only did the students get to experience the incredible atmosphere of Wimbledon, but we were on Court 1 with three high profile games scheduled for the day so were guaranteed an electric atmosphere!
The highlight of the day was an intense battle between rising star Artur Fils and the experienced Alex De Minaur. The match extended to four thrilling sets, with De Minaur ultimately emerging victorious with a 3-1 set score. Students were on the edge of their seats as they witnessed the Australian’s tenacity and skill on the grass court.
We were also treated to compelling women’s matches when we saw Yulia Putintseva face off against the powerful Jelena Ostapenko, and watched Danielle Collins challenge Barbora Krejcikova. It was fantastic for the students to witness the future 2024 women’s singles champion in action, as Krejcikova would go on to claim the women’s title.

During the trip, the students had the chance to explore the Wimbledon grounds, observe players warming up on outer courts, and participate in various activities. Additionally, students had the option to purchase souvenirs from the shop and indulge in the classic Wimbledon treat of strawberries and cream.
It was an incredible opportunity for our students to see elite athletes compete at the highest level and experience the rich history and traditions of the world’s oldest tennis tournament. We know that this memorable day will continue to inspire our students interest in this sport.
