World Book Day inspires Key Stage 3 to celebrate their favourite books
Our Key Stage 3 students in Years 7 to 9 were able to celebrate ‘World Book Day’ on Thursday 5th March 2026 by coming to school dressed as their favourite character from a book, which included many classics, young adults fiction, graphic novels and biographies.
It was optional for students to participate in, and we were impressed there were so many amazing costumes with lots of thought, effort and imagination gone into them.
In previous years, this opportunity was just for Year 7, but due to how successful this has been and that 2026 is the ‘National Year of Reading’, we opened this up to all of Key Stage 3 to include Years 8 and 9.
To reward our students for taking part, we held a ‘Best Costume’ competition in the library where there were gift voucher prizes and certificates to the winners.
Congratulations to the following students and also everyone who took part.
1st place – Chloe Wilson-Dalton (Year 7)
Runner-up – Eloise Bates and Rusne Mekuskaite (Year 7)
Runner-up – Jaimee Lucas and Iris Smith (Year 7)
It wasn’t just the students who were able to dress up as the school staff got involved and matched our students for creativity and imagination. It goes to show that the staff in school are just as keen readers as our students!
As well as coming to school in costumes, every Key Stage 3 student in Years 7 to 9 received and completed a World Book Day workbook (see below) which packed with challenges and quizzes.
The workbook was created by our English department and specially designed with our students in mind.
The Masked Reader quiz was especially popular where students listened to stories read by a mystery member of staff who our students had to then guess who was behind the mask!
