Above is a video with further information about the subject

This is an optional subject which all students will study for 3 hours per week.

The BTEC Tech Award in Art & Design is a vocational qualification closely linked to the demands of the industry. Students will work on set assignments and produce work that meets a brief, just as a real artist or designer would.

The course is designed to prepare and provide students with a choice of routes into further education or employment. It is equivalent to 1 GCSE with a Distinction*, Distinction, Merit or Pass grade. Each assignment will have every task written in detail and it will be very clear to students what they must hand in to achieve a Pass, Merit, or Distinction.

This is an exciting course which is ideal for students who have a strong interest in Art & Design and may wish to move towards a career in some aspect of the industry. Examples of this may be Illustrator, Animator, Graphic Designer, Fine Artist, Computer Games Designer, Jewellery Designer, Product Designer, Set Designer or Architect.

The Art & Design course is an exciting and diverse programme. Students explore a range of media, techniques and processes including drawing, painting, printmaking, 3D design and ceramics. Students will respond to a series of design briefs as a real artist or designer would and use the visual language of the subject sensitively and thoughtfully to support their intentions.

Students will cover the following units in their design briefs during Year 10 and the first half of Year 11:

  • Generating Ideas in Art & Design
  • Developing Practical Skills in Art & Design

The Art & Design department organise a trip to support learning in Year 10. The cost will be approximately £30.

In the second half of Year 11, students will complete an externally set assignment. This will take place over a period of 10 weeks of lesson time, allowing students to prepare a practical project with their teacher support. Students will then have 10 hours to produce a final outcome in controlled conditions.

If you achieve a level 2 pass in BTEC Level 2 Art & Design you could study BTEC Level 3 Art & Design at Bourne Academy Sixth Form, or other Level 3 Art & Design, Graphic Design and Product Design qualifications at College.
